NO. 4 - STATED NEW TESTAMENT COMMANDS, CHARGES AND/OR ORDERS

Stated commands, charges and/or orders are directives received from a superior regarding moral and religious responsibility. "Stated" means that the word command, charge or order is in the verse or context where the instruction is given. When God chose to make a particular action a command, charge or order, He "stated" it as such. Whatever God has "stated" as a command, charge or order we must consider an "essential" doctrine to be followed today. The seven Greek words in this study that have been translated command, charge and/or order are listed on page 4A.

28. We are to walk in truth, as we received commandment from the Father (2 Jn. 4).
D. STATED COMMANDS AND CHARGES IN TIMOTHY AND TITUS (64-68 A.D.).
29. Charged not to give heed to fables (fiction) and endless genealogies, which cause disputes…(1 Tim. 1:3,4).
30. The purpose of the commandment is love with a pure heart, a good conscience and sincere faith (1 Tim. 1:5).
31. Commanded to reject profane and old wives fables (fiction) and exercise ourselves to godliness (1 Tim. 4:7,11).
32,33. Commanded to exhort an older man as a father; younger men as brothers (1 Tim. 5:1,7).
34-37. Commanded to exhort older women as mothers; younger women as sisters with all purity (1 Tim. 5:2,7); honor widows who are really widows; show piety (devotion) at home and repay parents (1 Tim. 5:3,4,7).

46. Charged not to quarrel about words of no value which can overthrow the faith of some (2 Tim. 2:14).
47-55. Charges for preachers to preach the word; be ready at all times; convince; rebuke; exhort; etc. (2 Tim. 4:1-5).
"Not giving heed to Jewish fables (fiction) and commandments of men who turn from the truth" (Titus 1:14). The above commands, charges and orders are all stated, that is, the word is in the verse or context of the directive. The following Scriptures show the importance of obedience to the commands, charges and orders that come from God.
1. Now by this we know that we know Him, "if" we keep His commandments (1 Jn. 2:3).
2. He who says, "I know Him," and does not keep His commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him (1Jn.2:4).
3. This is the love of God, that we keep His commandments and His commandments are not burdensome(1Jn.5:3).
4. Blessed are those who do His commandments...they have the right to the tree of life and the holy city(Rev.22:14).
Obedience to God's commands is "equated" with knowing God, honesty, loving God and entering His presence. This is why we must consider God's "stated" commands, charges and orders "essential" doctrines that one must follow.
