NO. 11 – UNCLASSIFIED DOCTRINE OF THE NEW TESTAMENT

"Unclassified doctrine" is religious doctrine based on "Scriptural statements or examples" that is not equated with salvation (categories 1-3) or stated as a command, charge, order, mandate, exclusion, obligation, exhortation, or shameful (categories 4-9). The 53 doctrines listed below illustrate what some religious leaders and churches teach based on statements and examples. Giving statements and examples the same weight, or force, as a stated command, mandate or exclusion is adding to the inspired word of God. If God, through the inspired word, does not equate doctrine with salvation, or state doctrine as a command, charge, order, mandate, exclusion, obligation, exhortation, or shameful, how can we? We are not in bondage (Gal. 5:1) to Old Testament laws, or commands, charges, orders or mandates laid down by religious leaders. We should be free to believe, practice, preach, teach and support our convictions about "unclassified doctrine." Our judgment about "unclassified doctrine" should not be made a matter of salvation and fellowship. Christians who create and/or support divisions among believers in Christ are yet carnal and walking as mere men (1 Cor. 3:3). Heresies (creating divisions over self-willed opinions) excludes one from the kingdom of God (Gal. 5:19-21). Most of the following doctrines should be considered as those in Category No. 10; "Doctrinal, cultural or personal differences, but not a reason for division."

1. We should celebrate Christ's birth (Mt. 2:1-11; Lu. 2:11-20).
2. Only unleavened bread is authorized for use when observing the Lord's Supper (Matt. 26:17,26; 1 Cor. 11:23-28).
3. The church is only authorized to use one cup when observing the Lord's Supper (Mt. 26:26,27; 1 Cor. 11:23-28).
4. Christians are to identify themselves as Jehovah's witnesses (Ac. 1:8,22; 2:32; 3:15; 5:32; 10:41; 13:31; 22:15; 1 Th. 2:10).
5. The entire local church is to meet in one assembly (Ac. 2:42; 1 Cor. 14:23); separate classes are not acceptable to God.
6. Ministers are to be addressed only by their name, no titles (Matt. 23:8-10; Ac. 2:14,35; 3:1,6; 8:5; 15:39,40; 19:1).
7. Ministers are to be addressed as brother (1 Cor.16:12; 2 Pet. 3:15) not as Mr., Dr., Reverend (Ps. 111:9), Pastor, Elder, etc.
8. Christians are to have all things in common as they did in the beginning of the church (Ac. 2:44,45; 4:32-37; 2 Cor.8:14).
9. Baptism is to be performed in running water only, not in a church baptistery (Mk. 1:9; Ac. 8:38,39).
10. Every church should have a Women's Society (Ac. 9:36-39).
11. Christian is the only proper name to be used in identifying the followers of Christ (Ac. 11:26; 26:28; 1 Pet. 4:16); disci- ples (Ac. 20:7), brethren (Ac. 21:7), saints (Eph. 1:1), believers (1 Tim. 4:12), are not proper names and should not be used.
12. Christians are to celebrate Easter (Grk-pashca) (Ac.12:4, KJ).
13. Christians are to celebrate Pentecost (Acts 2:1); as the apos- tle tle Paul did (Acts 20:16; 1 Cor. 16:8).

18. Christians may participate in sectarian religious feasts and rituals, just as the apostle Paul did (Ac. 20:16; 21:23-26).
19. Christians must not engage in swimming with the opposite sex …this activity makes provision for the flesh (Rom. 13:14).
20. Civil rulers are ordained of God to use capital punishment in the execution of wrath against evil doers (Rom. 13:3,4).
21. Phoebe was a servant (diakonos) of the church in Cenchrea (Rom. 16:1,2) therefore we should have deaconesses today.

25. Churches are only to be referred to as churches of Christ (Matt. 16:18; Rom. 16:16; Phil. 2:9).
26. The church name should be the church of God (Ac. 20:28; 1 Cor. 1:2; 10:32; 11:16; 15:9; 2 Cor. 1:1; Gal. 1:13.
27. Pitch pipes and tuning forks are acceptable to God when used as used only as an expedient to worship (1 Cor. 6:12).

31. Music in worship may be instrumental and/or vocal, by a choir, quartet, solo, etc. (Rev.5:8,9; 14:2,3; 15:2,3).
32. Facial make-up must not be used because the presentable parts of the body have no need (1Cor.12:23,24; 1 Tim. 2:9 KJ).
